Bird Bath Open For Business

The fountain in our yard is apparently the hottest bird spa in town! Today was treated to an amazing
display of this Ruby-crowned kinglet enjoying his bath and then perching on the nearby tomato cage to
fluff up and dry. While the hot pink crest on male birds is not normally visible, this guy flashed it several
times while drying off. I've been waiting for a shot of the hot pink crest like this for over a year, one of my
favorite birds.

Adding a water feature such as this will attract an amazing variety of birds and they can be most amusing with their bathing antics. Far better than watching tv or edhat(sorry). You can see edhat while watching the birds too though.

Such a cute little bird. I've never seen the pink crest. To watch birds AND edhat, just position the device you are using for edhat so you can look past it out a window which opens onto bird-friendly terrain. Use one eyeball for each, or toggle back and forth. LOL. Have a nice happy hour.

Kinglets rule! I love how they do a cross between the Rhumba and the Tahitian Hula when they dry off their behinds! I have several coming daily to my ground bird bath outside my kitchen window. They are busy little birds-never still for more than 3 seconds.

I have a similar fountain, and it's covered with birds all year...so fun to watch. They love moving water. Right now there are a dozen white crowned sparrows, and a bunch of yellow/green warblers (don't know which species).

Greenfiat- They may be Townsend Warblers, we have them year round at our fountain on the mesa. Particularly lovely birds.

I haven't had a kinglet (Mission Canyon near Nat. History Museum) for a couple of years. I think maybe the Cooper's Hawk scared them away. Lucky you!

AFC--Kinglets, like wrens, love brush/shrubs to move through, to get to the water; they do not like open areas. As they are shy of larger birds, they like a nearby spot they can pounce from once any bigger birds vacate. Those greenish warblers might be Yellow-rumped warblers, sort of a blend of olive-gray-green, with white-ish bars on the upper wings, small dark eyes, beak, and legs, notched tail, faint yellow patches near the front throat, and a bright yellow patch on the lower back above the tail, that only flashes as they fly away or splash in the water. Townsend's males are more brightly colored-with the Zorro mask across the eyes, and very bright yellow. Backyard Birds--love 'em.
