I'm thankful for all of the unknown daily heroes who help people in all sorts of ways from opening a door to working as a volunteer to helping rebuild a house. We live in a very generous minded country and we help others across the globe all the time. And right here in SB I see people helping others all the time. It makes the world go round. Today we can set aside our differences for awhile and be thankful we have each other.

I'm thankful for the physical beauty of this place we call home. For the kindness of strangers. For tolerance. For family, friends and the other who we don't really know, but who we often see in the course of our daily lives. I'm thankful for the quiet heros amongst us who give without any expectations.

The list is a long one: Thankful to have been born here. Thankful to have lived here when going naked at mountain pools was the norm, and playing on More Mesa beach nude was a fun thing to do. Thankful I never got hooked on drugs or alcohol. Grateful to own a beautiful home (no mortgage) and to have enough land to garden and grow veggies/flowers. Thankful that I live with nice, nice people and we all get along. Thankful that I love animals and can provide a home for lots of wild things, including my happy dogs and my neighbors' cats. Thankful that the neighbors on three sides of me are all good, quiet and lovely people. Thankful that Santa Barbara has so many trees and so much wildlife. Thankful for the beautiful beaches and mountains. Thankful that I can walk and ride my bike and MTD, and don't need a car to get around. Thankful that I had a loving mother who raised me to be kind to animals, with a "live and let live" attitude. Thankful that my mind is still bright, that I have all my own teeth, that my health is still better than most, that I am aging better than everyone around me. Thankful that I am a happy person and enjoy passing that happiness on to others. Thankful that I can help others out sometimes and lend an ear. Thankful that I learned to stop lending money. Thankful that I found Edhat, which has provided me with many moments of entertainment, much laughter and taught me a lot about Santa Barbara, the people and other critters here. I'm grateful I'm not drunk in jail and or dead...I'm grateful I'm not a Santa Barbara cop out there baby sittin all the drunks..I'm grateful I'm not 30 years old anymore begging for a girlfriend..I'm grateful Balistic Belinda aient my wife..I'm grateful for my little Pooh Bear but not his arthritis poor little guy..I'm grateful for the comments on Edhat especally the one where someone says "There are some nice prostitutes on Haley." I can't stop laughing..

I am thankful that my ancestors settled in this paradise, that my spouse chose to join me here and that we have great offspring who love nature and appreciate the important things in life. I can fondly remember my mother saying, 'We are so lucky.' And Edhat contributes greatly to this overall feeling of well being. I love the information and the humor!

I'm thankful for all those who saw me safely through my stroke last February - from my neighbors who drove me to the E.R. fast to my kids, from far and near, who took care of everything that needed taking care of while I was in the hospital, and to all the medical personnel and therapists who got me back in working order. Mostly, I'm thankful that I got my regular everyday life back - all the things I can do and the places I've been that I thought I'd never be able to do again. Life is really good!

I'm thankful I am cancer free. Diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer in April 2012.
