Have you ever wondered where hair extensions come from or what message
you send the world when you buy one?

Yes, I dated a woman, who was a quite well off and tenured professor and she donated her hair. What is your point?

434p, because that's just one facet of the hair trade. There are plenty of women in India who sell hair for profit (or are aware that their hair offerings as part of their religious process ends up being sold after it is shaved off.) But there are myriad women who are held down, have their head shaved by force or are drugged and have their hair cut. But family, friends, strangers, husbands and boyfriends. To me, this is the bigger issue. Selling isn't, but the selling and the demand from the west is so huge that it in turns enables that kind of horrible crime to occur to many women on a daily basis in India (and other countries.) Unfortunately, women in developing countries often have less rights so there's not much to be done. The article could have focused on this more sinister chicken and egg cycle of demand and crime.

I think the point is that they do have other skills besides growing hair on their heads, but there are no opportunities which utilize those. RH

460, a tenured, wealthy professer can choose to donate her hair. She has choices. Some people don't. No comparison.

537p, you didn't learn anything? Poem aside, it's scary to me that you can't even be bothered to get past that and look into this issue for yourself, because it's a pretty big one. Learning is a proactive thing, sometimes. Get out there and get interested in what is happening in people's lives outside of your comfort zone....otherwise we can talk about irritating and silly.

You know, the bigger issue is that there are people in India selling their organs and once they wake up, they're missing a kidney and the money never shows up. Let's concentrate on larger issues here than hair. Hair grows back; but as far as I know nobody has yet learned how to re-generate a kidney.

People who wear extensions and it's not for Halloween or for medical reasons but for vanity alone, appear impatient to grow their hair legitimately. Most people do best with what they have naturally.
