Office Printer

At my office, I have an old HP 4000 TN LaserJet printer that's on its last legs (it's about 15 years old!) and
will soon need to be replaced. HP doesn't make this model anymore, darn it - it's been quite the
workhorse. I like it because it has two drawers, so I can choose to print on either letterhead or plain paper,
plus it has an adjustable manual feeder, through which I feed envelopes and labels, making it very
versatile. Does anyone have suggestions for a suitable, reasonably priced replacement?

I have an HP4 and it is still going strong. Had a problem a while ago, found one at a resale shop and cannibalized one for the other. You will not find another model made today that is as sturdy and reliable as the one you have right now. Hold on to it as long as you can.

You won't find another workhorse kind of printer today. If possible, have this one fixed. Talk to the guys - Brian or Steve at TEK 965-4599. They do onsite service or carry in. I brought mine in. Unfortunately, could not be totally repaired, but they got it as good as they could without being able to get the final part. They are honest and will tell you if it cannot be fixed or is not worth fixing. They don't sell, just service.

Contact Laser Cartridge Company, Brandon Mades, 683-4871. He refills toner cartridges and repairs printers. He can tell you models that need few or no repairs. He recommended an HP model for me that I bought on eBay and it works great! Get one that can duplex--print on both sides of the paper automatically.

OP: Bravo for your correct use of both "its" and "it's". So few people correctly know the difference! Off topic, I know, but worth noting! Hope you find a printer that suits your needs.

I had an HP and it was great until I spilled toner on the transfer film by accident and then it printed very yellow. I replaced it with a Xerox. While the print quality is good I would not recommend a Xerox because it constantly needs toner (that costs $80 for tiny cartridge). Also, a few years in, it asked that the imaging unit be replaced and it literally totally stopped working until you do so. Talk about built in obsolescence. I also found out that eventually this will happen with a fuser unit..... WT.... grrr..... Once this printer dies I will most likely replace it with an HP, definitely not a Xerox, and possibly a Brother.... Hoping to hear from other EdHatters about their faves...

I have a barely used Panasonic KXP4420 laser printer including an extra toner cartridge. If you are interested, let me know how to contact you and make me an offer.

Thanks everyone. OP here and after reading all of this, am thinking I may need to find all the old HP 4000TNs I can locate and stockpile them! Have researched a little on the 'net too, and may investigate a printer that can duplex print and/or color print as well. You've been quite helpful. And, I do appreciate the grammatical assessment as well. ;)
