Yay! I'm an ASAP volunteer and I love hearing about successful adoptions. Congratulations! She's very cute. It's hilarious that she's such an active dreamer.

When my father was thinking about getting a cat, he decided ahead of time that he would name the cat either "Mao" or "Neko," because they mean "cat" in Chinese and Japanese (both of which he had studied). On the other hand, my more radical brother named his orange tabby "Trotsky," because the cat was a "red."

We definitely did NOT name her after any historical figure, but rather after the sounds she makes. She is quite talkative and we thought it fit her nicely.

I'm sure she makes you both happy, as a good cat should.

"Mao" in Chinese means (among other things-different characters, tones etc. = different words) "cat." I'm betting no politics are involved here.

I'm sure the name is merely echoic and not a tribute to the infamous Chairman. My cat's name is Mau because that is what he says quite loudly about 100 times a day.

Mao's rule from 1949 to 1976 is believed to have caused the deaths of 40 to 70 million people.
